The Free Library and the Foundation offer thousands of events each year, some in-person and some virtual, as well as robust services and resources! Visit our website to find something that interests you! Here’s a sampling of what you can expect to find over the coming weeks:
- The Free Library is proud to commemorate Black History Month through programs and resources for all ages at locations around
the city! In addition to over 100 events filling the calendar this month, we're excited to celebrate with a new exhibition at the Parkway Central Library. The In-Between Spaces, on view now, explores the vessels and tides of the collective aesthetic memory of Blackness through mediums such as film, photography, collage, bookmaking, and more.
- Celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Free Library Rare Book Department with an ongoing series of talks, tours, and special glimpses inside one of our most beloved collections! This milestone year will include extended evening hours in the department until 8:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month.
- The Independence Library will celebrate the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Dragon on Monday, February 12 at 4:00 p.m. Festivities will include storytime, playtime, and fun crafts for all ages!

The Free Library is one of the most important educational and cultural institutions in Philadelphia. While the City of Philadelphia provides public funds for the operations of the Free Library, it is through the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation and the generosity of private funding from individuals, foundations, and corporations that the Free Library is able to offer many of the Library’s incredible programs and activities that advance literacy, guide learning, inspire curiosity throughout the region, and help deliver on the promise of an equitable future for all of Philadelphia’s children, families, and communities. |
